Balika Vadhu Rocks!!

Have you been watching the serial “Balika Vadhu” on Colours which has caught the attention of the whole nation? It is touted as the No. 1 serial what with its high TRP giving a run to the nonsensical saas-bahu sagas. Thanks to the excellent screenplay, direction and last but not the least, the excellent performances by the actors (most of them newcomers).

The story revolves around a girl Anandi (the protagonist) who is married at a tender age. She is lovable and innocence personified! But through her innocent demeanor comes forth such questions which the society has no answers for. It is through her innocent questions that the serial makers highlight the issues which still plague rural India. The story which is set in a remote village in Rajasthan, tries to address issues like child marriage, the problems faced by the poor, the feudalism, the hypocritical society (which puts a farce of a goody two shoes but does all the wrong behind closed doors). A case in point is the marriage of Anandi’s middle aged uncle with a young teen aged girl Gehna.

The serial has impressed me so far with its:

1. Portrayal of friendship between Anandi and her friend Phooli.
2. The sweet love hate relationship between Anandi and her husband (ooh).
3. The parting shots given at the end of the serial (kudos to the writers!).

Hope the serial makers stick to the tight script and not dilute the essence of the serial by melodramatic, useless scenes just to rake in TRPs and stay in the race but end the serial when it should. Though I would never want it to end. Liked it so much!

Hello!!

The intention of creating this blog is to write what I feel about our city Hyderabad and try to improve the city in my own little way. I wish to get comments from readers who second my thoughts and even from those who do not agree with me. Apart from this, I would also be writing about anything that crosses my mind – be it my childhood, college days, my days as an NCC cadet and my perspectives on life. Hope you enjoy reading and responding too!
